Enjoy outstanding arts education with instructors from Bemis School of Art and the FAC Theatre Company in the beautiful setting of La Foret's historic buildings and majestic forest. The Fine Arts Center's partnership with La Foret has a long history. Alice Bemis Taylor is one of the three FAC original founders and built her summer home at La Foret. The Taylor Memorial Chapel, built in 1929, was designed by FAC architect John Gaw Meem.
Campers begin their day exploring a variety of artistic styles and techniques. Sometimes this means going for hikes for inspiration from trees or plants or even the chapel built by Alice Bemis-Taylor. The projects range from paper mache birds and animal masks to mosaics and pointillist paintings. The art instructor teaches the campers on how to use light in pictures and encourages them to use the color wheel among other artistic guidelines while exploring elements of composition and design.
In the afternoon, the campers explore their acting skills, voice, movement, and characterization, with theatre games, mime and improvisation. Art and acting will come together on Friday with a special showcase performance and art exhibit for friends and family.
La Foret staff provides supervised swimming and other activities (conditions permitting) in between morning and afternoon sessions. Bring your swimsuit, towel and sunscreen. Each child should bring a lunch and snack, and should be prepared for a variety of activities and weather. No open-toe shoes or sandals, please.
